The part that stuck with me was the distinction between the real yes and the armor yes, I’ve given that second kind more times than I’d like to admit, and I don’t think I ever noticed someone naming it before. What I liked most is that the essay doesn’t pretend the games or the dancing dissolved the hierarchy. It just gave people a reason to stop performing it for a few hours. That feels more honest than most leadership writing, which usually wants trust to be a technique instead of something earned by looking foolish first.
I just love your last sentence. And I whole-heartedly believe it's true. Feeling comfortable enough to show your own foolishness or even shortcomings to strangers paves the way for opening up and being honest. And that's no chicken and egg problem. You just go first. That's what leading is. Create the space and atmosphere the people in the room need.

Thank you. I am very much trying to write about leaders and leadership from a different angle. Not "10 lessons I learned", "5 things successful leaders do", etc. I believe real moments hold more power and meaning. I loved the nature of this writing. I was thoroughly engrossed. That line about asking people questions and actually waiting for their response is necessary. Even the subheading of people revealing heavily filtered versions of themselves in a trailer to a movie that doesn’t exist👏🏾👏🏾. It’s important to keep asking questions, to keep updated, personality isn’t permanent and systems I.e corporate hierarchy and duplicity needs disruption. Looking forward to what else comes from you.

When writing I was hesitant about this “ask questions and wait” part because if felt somewhat plain and cliche. But then again specifically in corporate settings it really does go a long way. And even more so, leaders seem to forget. Again and again.
